Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Opportunities in Barre City
The City of Barre is seeking applications for volunteers to serve on City committees, task forces, boards, and commissions. Participation in these public bodies is a great way to get involved in your community, and lend your expertise or interest to make the City an even better place to live. If you are interested in serving your community, please see the application process information below. Questions? Email the City Manager.
Application Process
Interested applicants must complete an application form which is available on the City’s website under Volunteer Opportunities, and attached to the end of this notice.
- Due date: At this time, applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Most terms expire on June 30 annually. Around April, a due date may generally be established to allow for current members to be considered for reappointment. If any deadline is set, it will be posted on this memo and on the City’s website.
- How to submit your application: Submit your completed application via email or drop it off in the City Manager’s Office at City Hall (6 N. Main Street, Suite 2)
Note: You do not need to physically “sign” the application form, typing your name on the fillable form is acceptable.
Volunteers currently serving on these public bodies who (1) have expiring terms and (2) are seeking reappointment must also submit applications.
Council Interviews
In accordance with City Council policy, candidates for all open seats will be invited to an informal interview with the City Council prior to appointment to discuss their interest in the public body to which they applied. Council meetings generally occur every other Tuesday at 6:00PM. A schedule of upcoming Council meetings can be located on the City’s website. Candidates will be invited by City staff to a specific meeting for the brief interview. Please note that Council interviews will not be required under the following circumstances:
- The candidate is an incumbent seeking reappointment, and
- The Chair (or the Vice-Chair in the case of the Chair’s pending reappointment), provides a letter in support of reappointment.
Additional Information
Applicants are encouraged to attend a meeting or speak to the chair of public bodies they are interested in joining.
The City of Barre is committed to providing equal opportunities to all volunteers and applicants, including historically discriminated and under-represented populations.
